One of the most anticipated events of the summer for me is the appearance of the PHS Pop-up Gardens. While I never go as much as I would like to, checking them out is always on my summer bucket list.
This year there are two locations: one in Graduate Hospital, and another in East Passyunk.
The Graduate Hospital pop-up is revisiting last year’s location — at 1438 South Street — with new decor, new brews, & new grub. This year the garden follows a romantic vibe similar to that such as Talula’s Garden and URBN’s 543. The food-and-drink options include sandwiches, hot dogs, cheese plates and more from Dietz & Watson as well as brews from Barren Hill Brewery.
Guaranteed to be one of the most popular beers of the summer, the beer garden is pouring the Garden Variety Wit by Barren Hill, which is a PHS pop-up garden exclusive beer. The Graduate Hospital location did a bit of a soft opening with events for Philly Beer Week, but is going into full swing starting today.
The East Passyunk pop-up garden is located directly across from Pat’s and just down the street from Geno’s at 829 Wharton Street. This is a brand new location for PHS and the garden is styled a la South Philly “hipsters”. Food and beverages are curated by the team behind the nearby Cantina los Caballitos, Royal Tavern and Triangle Tavern.
The gardens will open at noon on today and food and drink service will start at 5 p.m. For more on the two pop-up garden locations, click here.
The gardens benefit PHS-run programming in addition to City Harvest, a local organization that aims to bring healthy food to those in need.
